I was born in Glasgow, Scotland and moved to Canada when I was young. I grew up in Caledonia, and went to school in Hamilton (Hillfield) and Ancaster (AH&VS – asbestos it gets!), before heading to the University of Western Ontario for 11 years to study business, then philosophy, then psychology, and ultimately, once I finally figured out what I wanted to do with my life, cognitive science. I moved to Victoria, BC for a year to complete a Post Doc with Dan Bub and the Perceptual Expertise Network before settling in the Psychology Department at UTSC, where I’ve been since 2003. I now live in Toronto with my amazing partner Janice and my two daughters.

When I’m not working I spend as much time at my local climbing gyms as my fingers will let me (I’m a newbie), either bouldering or top-roping. I also like to get out of the city when I can to hike and mountain bike in the local forests. I have season tickets to Toronto FC and I’m a big Manchester United fan. I love music and food (and Toronto is great for both) which really weighs down my chances of ever becoming a professional climber!
